The Minister of Finance, Mrs Zainab Ahmed has apologized to President Muhammadu Buhari and the nation on the fire outbreak that gutted the Treasury House, a building housing the AGF’s office.
The minister announced that the government has lost 700billion naira Covid-19 Relief Funds.
She made this known to the press during her interview session today Thursday 9th April 2020.
That, the files and documents of the Covid-19 Relief fund donated by individuals and companies to support the Nation’s fight coronavirus was all burnt.
According to the minister of State for budget and planning, Clem Agba, had on accessing the situation yesterday informed the public that none of documents were destroyed.
But, he rhetorically said they were yet to take an inventory of what was destroyed.
“We would be doing a full scale investigation using the right professionals to determine exactly what happened.
However, today Zainab has apologized to the nation for losing N700 billion to the inferno.
According to the finance minister She said:
“We’re sorry about the incident that occurred on Wednesday 8th of April 2020, the government has lost 700billion naira Covid-19 Relief Funds due to the Fire outbreak.
“Damages in the office and we’re yet to investigate on what was the cause of the fire outbreak.
“I want to use this opportunity to appeal to the President, Nigerians most especially to the SouthEast and Southwest, government together we will help fight this virus.”
She also called on the Commissioner of Police, Abuja to trace and identify the cause of the fire outbreak in the office.
