Gov. Udom Emmanuel, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with FC Porto, to invest in sports development in Akwa Ibom State.
The officials of Portugese Football Academy, FC Porto Academy were in Uyo, the state’s capital to work out modalities for the establishment of a Sports Academy in the State.
FC Porto officials were: Pedro Albuquerque, Head, FC Porto International, Tiago Calisto, CEO TGC Consulting, Pedro Moreira, Carlos Silva and Paul Ojo.
Udom, said his government is open for public partnerships and private sector participation.
However, the Sports Academy by FC Porto is to trained and developed Akwa Ibom youth into professional and international footballers.
Recalled, the governor udom administration known as “Dakkada” has established a football club known as Dakkada FC.
Dakkada F.C was formerly known as Akwa Starlets F.C.
Meanwhile, the team is currently in the Nigerian Professional Football League after they gained promotion from the Nigeria National League.
Daily Tells understands that, there are facilities already put in place.
The Portuguese will make use of the stadium that was built by the previous administration.
