The Petition Tribunal for National Assembly and State Assembly sitting in Abuja for Kogi State has nullified the elections of Senator Dino Melaye of PDP.
Daily Tells Nigeria reports that on Friday morning, August 23, the tribunal nullified the elections of Senator Dino Melaye.
This online media platform recalls that Senator Melaye was declared the winner of the Kogi West Senatorial election.
Dino, a second time senator from Kogi west was declared winner of the Kogi west senatorial district election by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in February.
It will be recalled that the results declared by INEC showed that Melaye, from PDP scored 85,395 votes to defeat Smart Adeyemi of APC, who polled 66,901 votes.
According to INEC Dino defeated Adeyemi with difference of 18,494 votes and was returned elected by the INEC returning officer.
Senator Smart Adeyemi approached the tribunal to challenge the outcome of the election and was on Friday, the tribunal ruled in favour of his plea.
Justice A. O. Chijioke lead three-man panel in a unanimous judgment accepted with Adeyemi’s petition and ordered for re-election into the Kogi West senatorial district.
However, Dino Melaye still has the Appeal court to appeal for the judgment or go with the decision of the tribunal.
Daily tells understands that Mr. Dino was cleared by his party, Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP to contest for governorship election primaries this Saturday before the tribunal nullified his senatorial elections.
