President Muhamadu Buhari Has Set A New Law For Nigerians Without The National Assembly’s Consent

The president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who also doubled as the presidential candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC) has set in a new for Nigerians during his meeting with the top ranking officers of his party (APC).  He gave an order to military and other armed security operatives during the rescheduled general elections dated on 23th February, 2019 to kill (shoot and kill) any person or group of persons who try to disrupt the election through ballot snatching and other vices.

“I am going to warn anybody who thinks he would lead a body of thugs in his locality to snatch boxes or to disturb the voting system; he would do it at the expense of his or her own life” the president reiterated and ordered the military to be ruthless to anyone that dare the process.

The Nigerian army has already issued a statement in regards to the president’s directives. This is what they say “If Commander in chief has given order to the Nigerian Army to that effect, be rest assured that order will be totally and effectively obeyed without any ifs or buts”. Army spokesperson Sagir Musa told the journalists.

When we contacted one of the law makers who pleaded anonymity, he said that the president has no right to issue such statement because we are not in a lawless nation or military regime.

Section 129 (4) of the Electoral Act states, “Any person who snatches or destroys any election material commits an offence and is liable on conviction to 24 months imprisonment.”

In terms of electoral violence, the act stipulates in Section 131 that anyone found culpable “is liable on conviction to a fine of N1,000, 000 or imprisonment for a term of three years.”
