Tambuwal wins APC as court takes final decision

The Appeal Court sitting in Sokoto State today upheld the election of the Governor Aminu Tambuwal as duly elected governor.

The Court in a unanimous judgements from the four-man panel upheld Tambuwal’s election and dismissed the petition of Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto of APC for lacking in merit.

Justice Hussein Muktar, the leading judge affirmed the decision of the lower court that the appellant had failed to prove the allegations of over-voting.

Recalled that election was declared inconclusive by the electoral umpire following cancellation of 75, 403 votes which were higher than the 3, 413 votes margin between the leading candidates.

However, a re-run was held on March 23, and Tambuwal won with just 342 votes which was the highest votes gotten among all the contestants.

Meanwhile, Aliyu was challenging the decision of the Tribunal, that declared Aminu Tambuwal of Peoples Democratic Party as the elected Governor of the State.

As at the time of filling this report, it was not cleared if the All Progressive congress will challenge the decision of the Court of Appeal in the Supreme Court, which is the final arbiter for the governorship cases.
