The South-south Governors Forum met on Thursday in Asaba, Delta State Capital, agreed to form a regional security outfit to curb crime in the region.
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Delta State governor who played host, made the announcement to newsmen at the end of their meeting in Government House, Asaba.
Okowa said that the Forum has agreed on a name for the security outfit.
The name is “BRACED” an acronym taken from (Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Delta). He said that the commission will work out modalities for the operations in the region.
All the six governors were in attendance except the governor of Cross Rivers State who was ably represented by his deputy.
However, these five governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom, Douye Diri of Bayelsa and Godwin Obaseki of Edo were physically present.
According to Gov. Okowa who made an apologetic statement for Ben Ayade said, “Unfortunately, the Cross River Governor, Ben Ayade, was held back in Abuja and could not make it to the meeting.
