Former Minister of Information, Prince Tony Momoh, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari cannot interfere in choosing the leadership positions of the incoming 9th National Assembly.
Prince Momoh, who is a national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, said that it was unfair for anybody to try to think or decide for the legislative arm of government the leaders it will choose, as they were an independent arm of government as stipulated by our constitution.
“President Buhari knows that the three arms of government all have their operating manual and as such, he doesn’t want to interfere. Some people do not really know that Buhari operates by the book.
“President Buhari knows that the three arms of government have their operating manual and as such, he doesn’t want to interfere. People don’t really know that Buhari operates by the book. He knows that the constitution is a compilation of delegated powers.”
“He knows what his powers are and what the limits are. He doesn’t want to exceed the limits. A lot of people don’t believe that that should happen and that is why they are clamouring that he should decide who becomes the Senate President or the Speaker. As someone who believes in due process and rule of law, he will never do that.”
However, Senator Omo_Agege opinion differs with that of the former minister of information who is the President’s ally. Senator Omo-Agege said that the president will not support any loyalist from the camp of out-going senate president but he will play a vital role on who becomes the senate president to avoid the mistakes of the past.
