NLC make fresh demand for minimum wage

Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Lagos State chapter has make a fresh demand for their minimum wage from N30,00 to N50,000.

The Civil Servants in Lagos State on Monday made this known to the Public that they will not recived anything lower than fifty Thousand as Minimum wage.

The organized Labour were seen in front of Lagos State House of Assembly making a peaceful protest for their demand.

They were seen in most of the major streets in Lagos, protesting.

The Chairman of the organised Labour, NLC, Funmi Sessi, said the special nature of Lagos State is what prompted the new demand.

However, the Chairman of the Labour Congress, explain the nature of hardship faced by the workers, the said N30,000 can not feed their family talk-less of paying their transport to work.

The Chairman stated the reasons why NLC made fresh demand for the increment for Lagos as follows:

“For a simple reason, Lagos is a special state, transportation and house rent are higher and so many hazards on the roads. When you go to work, market, it’s not the same as Ogun State. Rent in Lagos has been increased by 400 percent, transport, 200 percent.

“Our demand is that no junior worker besides the N50,000 minimum wage should go home with less than N15,000 hazard allowance.”

According to Sessi, the workers were not well remunerated, noting that things have continued to deteriorate.

“The leaders are only enriching themselves. When Senate and House of Representatives members collected their N30 million and N25 million welcome packages respectively, do you hear any news? But to pay N30,000 minimum wage which took two years to negotiate has become a problem.”

This online media understands that, Only Lagos State Chapter of the NLC were the ones engaging in the said protest for their increment.
