Nigerians reacts to Sowore’s N50M bail

A Federal High Court in Abuja has reduced Omoyele Sowore’s bail from 100 million naira to N50 million.

The court varied the bail condition for convener of RevolutionNow Protest, Sowore and his co-defendant,Olawale Bakare.

The former presidential candidate of AAC was arraigned on a four-count charge ranging from insulting President Muhammadu Buhari to money laundering.

However, after the hearing, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu gave a ruling on a motion filed by their counsel, Mr Femi Falana on behalf of the defendants.

She explained that, she was persuaded to vary the bail conditions regarding the deposit of N50million, bail security by one sureties for Omoyele Sowore.

Recalled that the court on October 4 had granted bail of N100 million to Mr Sowore and and his co-accused, Olawale Bakare, N50 million.

However, other conditions were, his (Sowore’s) travel documents must be deposited in Court and must not leave Abuja without the court’s permission during the trial of his case.

Falana pleaded that the court had granted bail to his client 17 days ago but he could not meet up because the stringency of the conditions.

He further said that Sowore does not have a house in Abuja but have one in Lagos, so restricting him not to leave Abuja is not fair.

He also stated that applicant teaches at a college of visual arts in the United States and he is also journalist who must earn a living during the pendency of the case.

Responding on points of law, Mr Falana said Section 45 deals with national security and there is nothing in this case that has a bearing on national security.

Therefore he maintained that using the word ‘Revolution’ as stated by the prosecution, has nothing to do with national security as even president Buhari has used the word in the past and it is in the record of court.

Nigerians reacted as the money for Sowore’s bail condition has been slashed.

“So nobody can pay this money for Sowore? where are his follow brothers in the struggle”.

“N50million to this gus is a chicken fee, where are his #SaveNigeria group, Bakare, the pastor where are you, your boy is in gail and you are in AC.”

“I just love Buhari, he is giving them what they deserve. They thought father BUBu is GEJ, the old man no get your time, his dogs will bite you…”
