National Assembly resumes sitting today set to name committees but may close down due to logistics



The newly constituted national assembly for the 9th assembly will resume sitting today 13th June, and will consider the naming of committees as their top priorities before going to any legislative business.

The leadership of the NASS from the upper and the lower chambers Senate President Ahmed Lawan and Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila set of the three committees each, they will also announce the adjournment of both chambers till on June 20.

According to The PUNCH, the lawmakers are returning back home due to logistics. It was gathered that, their offices were not ready and as such more time was needed to fix it.

At the interim, attempts to get the management of the National Assembly to brief us when the lawmaker’s offices will be ready prove abortive as none of the management staff agreed to speak to journalists.

One of the ranking senators who pleaded anonymity was privy to made the following statements for the public to be guided.

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party will send the names of their candidates to the presiding officers for the announcement as principal officers any moment from now.

“The Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives are expected to constitute the Rules and Business committees, interim media committees and House/Senate services committees

“The House/Senate services committees, for instance, would see to the payment of the money the lawmakers would need to settle pressing needs especially, their accommodation.

“The lawmakers will also meet the House/Senate services committees to ensure that all the items needed are provided in the offices.”
