Barcelona’s Captain, Lionel Messi has won the 2019 Ballon D’Or.

Messi won the ballon d’or against the Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk, Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool forward Sadio Mane.

Messi winning tonight has set another record for the Argentina’s Super star, as he has won the prize for the sixth times.

The Barcelona number 10 had previously won the award in 2009, 2010, 2011 and in 2012 before claiming his fifth Ballon d’Or in 2015.

Daily Tells understands that Messi, 32 won this prize at aged 22 and was first won the prize in 2009.

This is what he said after receiving the award:

“It is 10 years since I won my first Ballon d’Or here in Paris and I remember coming here with my three brothers, I was 22 and it was all unthinkable for me what I was going through,”

“Now ten years on this is my sixth, in a very different time, very special in my personal life with my wife and three children.” Messi quoted.
