Just in: Court grants ICPC request to freeze Yari, ex-Zamfara governor’s Accounts

The former governor of Zamfara State, Abul’aziz Abubarkar Yari’s  account has been frozen by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).

The ICPC has been given an order by the federal High court to freeze the account of the former governor of Zamfara State, Abubarkar Yari

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja granted the request by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) to freeze bank accounts allegedly owned by the immediate past Governor of Zamfara State, Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari.

In a judgment delivering on Friday by Justice Taiwo Taiwo, in an ex-parte motion by the ICPC, ordered that the accounts in Polaris and Zenith banks with funds in United States dollars and Nigerian naira, be frozen.

This decision was made pending when the affected person shows cause why the freezing order should be vacated.

However, Justice Taiwo judgment gives power to ICPC to publish the order within 14 days in a national newspaper.

And, also for the affected parties to show reason(s) why the funds should not be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.

Recall that the former governor of Zamfara State was an APC governor but was not able to secure the state due to infractions in the party that led to factions in the party.

As at the time of filling this report, Yari was out of reach as neither his aid nor his lawyer were not available to give the response to the judgment.
