Briyal Resigns as INEC REC

Residential Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Cross Rivers State, Dr. Frankland Oyeins Briyal has resigned.

Dr. Briyal resigned from INEC as a REC on Thursday, August 8th 2019 to contest for governorship in his state, Bayelsa. INEC REC resigns, joins Bayelsa Governorship race

Briyal served as Cross River REC from 2017 until his resignation. He said he left his job to contest for the governorship of his state, due to calls and pressure from the people on him to run in the Nov. 16, governorship election.

Briyal made this known in Calabar on Thursday while addressing journalists, saying he resigned to contest Bayelsa governorship elections come November 16th 2019.

The former INEC Boss for Cross River said that after critically considering the demands of his people, he decided to heed their call to selfless service that had always been his lifestyle.

He has tilt tent with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to run for the Bayelsa guber race.

His statements, “It was on Saturday, the 21st of July 2019, a mammoth crowd of meaning and purposeful Bayelsans with a mindset of rescuing the State held a will organized rally in the stae capital, Yenagoa beckoning on me to contest the November 16th Gubernatorial election.

“I have critically and humbly considered their demand and assertions; I have heard their clarion call to selfless service that had always been my lifestyle from the onset.

“On this note I, Dr. Frankland Oyeins Briyal has resigned my appointment as a Residential Electoral Commissioner in the Independent National Electoral Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with effect from Thursday 8 August, 2019.

“The Bayelsans, most especially the sound minded youth and the women who took to the streets on Yenogoa for the peaceful rally for the persuasion were impressed on the fact that I have the potentials and do without capacity to impact the must yearning change in the state,” he said.

Furthermore, he however called on the people of Bayelsa to embrace peace, eschew violence and reject vote buying and also called on the political class of the state to ensure that civility was maintained in the state.

Remarkably, the chairman of Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) in Cross River,Mr Sunday Michael, Chairman, they thought Briyal was going to be like the previous RECs, but he told them that he was going to work with all stakeholders and in the end he did just that.

“He was impartial while serving her in Cross River State. We wish him well and we will give him our total support. Bayelsans are lucky to have him.
