INEC display certificates of Obaseki

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has displayed the forms of Governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the forthcoming election in the State, Godwin Obaseki and Pastor Ize-Iyamu of APC and other 13 candidates for Edo gubernatorial election.

The Nigeria’s electoral umpire displayed the particulars at its annex office, sited at the former state secretariat of the PDP on Sapele Road in Benin, Edo State.

This was officially done on Thursday 2nd July, as the public now have the complete educational information of all the contestants as provided by them.

However, the INEC’s Information reveals that Governor Obaseki had his West African School Leaving Certificate in 1973 and Bachelor of Arts (B.A. Hons.), 1979, as his qualifications.

Meanwhile, the Governor did not present his ‘controversial’ Higher School Certificate (HSC).

The candidate of All Progressive congress, APC, Pastor Ize-Iyamu possesses an LLB from the University of Benin, Uniben, according to the INEC publication.

INEC display of certificates of candidates and even that of a sitting governor, Mr. Obaseki is a new development.

It would be recalled that of recent politicians have battling in the court on their school certificates, reason that may be what led INEC to this new tactics to curb unnecessary questioning in the court.

According to online and media reports, the contest for the governorship election in Edo will be between the APC and the PDP.

Daily Tells Nigeria understands that Obaseki is campaigning against godfatherism.
