Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, worldwide have said they are strongly behind Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio and not party to those that called for his removal as the Minister.
IYC said the agitation for the Minister’s removal was detrimental to the development of the Niger Delta region.
They rather commend Senator Akpabio for his radical moves to sanitize the ministry and the commission (NDDC).
The spokesperson to IYC, Daniel Dasimaka, in a statement on Friday, said that Ijaw youths were solidly behind Akpabio and had no reason to demand his removal.
His statement reads:
“The IYC is pleased with the moves Senator Akpabio has taken so far as Niger Delta Minister. We wholeheartedly welcome the call to audit the activities of the NDDC and to reposition the Commission and other MDAs saddled with responsibilities to develop our region.
“We are all aware of the uncommon transformation that the minister brought to Akwa Ibom in his eight years as Governor and desire to see him replicate the same in the entire region.
“There is, therefore, no way would the IYC or any development-seeking youths from our region call for the sack of an agent of positive change like Sen Akpabio.
“The call for his sack is the handiwork of impostors who want to leverage the influence and credibility of the IYC to push their own agenda. And for the avoidance of doubt, Barrister Pereotubo Oweilaemi is the President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC).”
Daily Tells Nigeria, recalls that Akpabio was sworn in by Mr. Buhari to head the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.
Akpabio has been making a lot of reforms since his inception as the Minister.
He has called for the probe of the past administrations not minding who might be affected.
This online media understands that the Past MD of NDDC, Obong Nsima Ekere was Akpabio’s Deputy while he served as the governor.
The immediate past MD of the NDDC was a Governorship candidate of APC in the 2019 gubernatorial election.
Akpabio through his media aide had made it clear that Akpabio will record a significance success before finishing his assignment given to him by Buhari’s administration in the Ministry
