Gov. Yahaya Bello to face indirect primaries to decide his fate of contesting election as a governor under the platform of APC.
The Kogi State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has adopted indirect primaries method for conduct of its primaries for the 2019 Kogi State Governorship election.
An APC primary is billed to hold in August, while the gubernatorial election is fixed for 16 November, 2019, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Governor Yahaya Bello of the All Progressives Congress is seeking re-election for a second term, a move some aggrieved leaders of his party have, however, vowed to oppose because of his leadership style.
Senator Dino Melaye had declared interest to contest for the office of the state governor On the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),, vowing to stop Bello’s reelection.
Dino Melaye is the only senator from the PDP that is representing the state in the upper chambers of the national assembly in the 9th Assembly
At the interim, there are rumours that APC may deny Governor Bello the party’s ticket, the APC National leadership is however yet to issue any official statement on its stand.
It will be recalled that this direct or indirect primaries should be decided by the national leadership of the party, because they will be the one to conduct the primaries and not the state.
