Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane & Virgil van Dijk Named on 2019 Best FIFA Men’s Player Shortlist




FIFA have announced the 2019 Best FIFA Men’s Coach 10-man shortlist, which includes African superstars Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane also Virgil van Dijk from Liverpool made the list but no player from Manchester City that won the premiership.

Also from the list are Premier League stars Harry Kane and (formerly) Eden Hazard.

Luka Modric who is the current title holder as the world footballer in the last season has not been named among the list.

It will be recalled that the Croatian, Luka Modric ended the 10-year reign of Christian Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

However, Christian Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, were named among the nominees, selected by a panel of Fifa legends. The duo are also on the shortlisted list.

The former Manchester united captain, Christian Ronaldo won the Serie A and Supercoppa Italiana titles in his debut season at Juventus and also the Uefa Nations League with Portugal.

The Argentina talisman, Lionel Messi lifted the LaLiga trophy with FC Barcelona and also claimed the European Golden Shoe.

This year’s award seems to be very open with Liverpool stars though they have the highest nominees but the vote will be determined where the winner will be from.

Many expected Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah to be in contention for the 2019 because of the role the reds played in winning the championship league title.

The season was brilliance for the Paris Saint-German forward Kylian Mbappe and he is also expected to sprung surprises as his name also appeared on the Fifa’s best list. The Frenchman was crown as the division’s top scorer in Ligue 1. He won the world cup against Russia

The following will be voting to determine the winner, Journalists, fans, national team coaches and captains. Each section has 25% as voting commences at midnight of 31st July and end on 19th August.

The top three finalists for each of the awards will be revealed at a later date before the grand finale.

The annual FIFA Gala night this year is hosted in Milan on 23rd September and the winner will be announced.
