Court Orders Godwin Obaseki Not to issue another Proclamation



Court takes final decision on Obaseki

Godwin Obaseki, Governor of Edo State has been ordered by the Federal High Courts in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, not to issue another proclamation letter as directed by the Nigeria Senate.

Obaseki was by the court the order following a request by the Deputy Speaker of the Edo House of Assembly, Hon. Yekini Idiaye; and the member representing Ikpoba-Okha Constituency in the Edo Assembly, Hon. Henry Okhuarobo, the duo filed the application to challenge the decision of the Senate.

In the judgement delivered, the court also stopped the Clerk of the National Assembly, the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, agents, officers or privies from interfering or taking over the legislative functions of the Edo Assembly.

Meanwhile, an order restraining the Police (IG) and other State Security Service, their servants, agents, officers or privies from sealing up the Edo State House of Assembly, or obstructing activities at the Edo State house of Assembly Under the already inaugurated leadership by the governor.
