Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has ordered for immediate shutdown of all livestock markets in the state.
According to the Secretary to State government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem who made the announcement unbehalf of the state governor, advises dealers to sell off their stocks immediately.
Ekuwem, said no new consignment will be allowed to the state.
He, however called on the security agencies to monitor the activities of the livestock sellers and prosecute defaulters.
“I have been directed by HE the Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel to announce the immediate shutdown of all livestock market in state for the rest of May 2020.
“By this announcement, no new consignment of livestock – goats, cows and rams, will be allowed into the state until further notice. Livestock sellers are advised to sell off their stock and proceed to shutdown.
“Security agencies have been directed to monitor and ensure full compliance. Defaulters will be prosecuted.
It would be recalled that the government of Akwa Ibom state had eased the lockdown but this is a new development.
