Senator Godswill Akpabio has given reasons why he did not participated in Akwa Ibom rerun elections.
Akpabio distanced himself from the rerun election that is on-going in Essien Udim, his Local Government Area.
Daily Tells Nigeria, had reported that APC had earlier announced their decision not to participate in the rerun elections in Akwa Ibom.
The reason for this withdrawal was on alleged perceived bias by electoral Umpire from the INEC in the state.
This was announced by the State Chairman of the Party, Mr Ini Okopido few hours to the elections.

“APC has withdrawn from the re-run election in Essien Udim local government area as we are dissatisfied with the conduct of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state.”
“We have officially as a party withdrawn from the rerun elections in Essien Udim local government area. We are so dissatisfied with the conduct of INEC in Akwa Ibom State and we have withdrawn from the elections.”
According to Akpabio’s Chief Press Secretary, Anietie Ekong, Aakpabio’s decision to stay away from the supplementary election was ‘sacrosanct.’
He maintained his earlier position that he is on National assignment and as such he won’t come down to contest fro the rerun.
Recalled, Ekperikpe Ekpo has been substituted with Akpabio to stand in for APC.
Hon. Ekperikpe was a former house of Rep Member in 2003, ever since he was out from active politics.
