Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA) on Tuesday reinstated the suspended chairman of Abak Local Government Area, Elder Barrister Imoh Williams.
Elder Imoh was reinstated by the speaker of House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey at the Tuesday plenary following the recommendation from the Committee Chairman, Mr.Mark Esset.
His reinstatement takes immediate effect as announced by the speaker of the Assembly.
The committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs headed by Mr Mark Eset, reported to the house that there was no case of assault between the Chairman of the council and an artisan, Mr Godwin Abraham assaulted by aides of the Chairman.
It will be recalled that the chairman of the council, Elder Imoh Williams was on Thursday, July 25, suspended and the Vice-Chairman, Mrs Benita Ukpe was mandated by the Assembly to take over the affairs of the council, pending the outcome of the investigation.
Mark Esset’s committee recommended that personal assistant to the chairman, Mr Uduakobong Ekpo, who allegedly assaulted the artisan, Godwin Abraham, tender an apology to him.
Also recommended that the council boss should trained his aides to avoid overzealousness in handling public affairs.
The report reads in parts: “The chairman, Imoh Williams should train his aides against overzealousness and brazen act of impunity
“And that the suspended Abak LG chairman should be reinstated with effect from Tuesday, Sept. 17, as no case of abuse of office was established against him.”
Daily Tells had reported that the governor of the state had earlier condemned the action and order full investigation to the matter.
And the assembly without delay wade into the matter within 24hours.
The House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs chaired by Rt. Hon. Mark Esset, was to report back to the House within one month but it took 2 months before it could resolved to their recommendations.
However, the final reports from the house is that Elder Imoh Williams has been reinstated and the aid is asked to apologies to the artisan.
