Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Obong Ufot Ekaette is dead.
Ufot Ekaette died at age 80 as Akwa Ibom State mourns with the family.
Ekaette, was born on April 17, 1939 in Ikot Edor in Onna Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The former SGF is from the same Local government with the present governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Gabriel Emmanuel.
He was married to Pharm. Eme Ufot Ekaette, a senator and holder of the national honour of the Member of the Federal Republic.
They have two children only.
Ufot Ekaette was the longest serving SGF, from 1999-2007 the record that is yet to be broken.
In January, 2009, he was again appointed the pioneer Minister in the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs by the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua till March 17, 2010.
He had served as the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State/ Vice Chairman, State Executive Council and State Security Council; Chairman, Finance and General Purposes Committee and State Boundaries Committee.
In year 2000 he was given national honour of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR).
Daily Tells reports that before Ufot Ekaette’s dead, he was seriously sick and was on a live support before his demised.
