Gov. Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State has sacked the Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University, Prof Blessing Chimezie Didia, with immediate effect.
The Governor also sacked the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) of the University, Professor Magnus Oruwari.
He, therefore, approved the appointment of Professor Opuenebo B. Owei, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) on the acting capacity as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University.
In the statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Dagogo Adonye Hart, He said: “His Excellency, the governor has suspended the ongoing employment exercise at the university.
“Furthermore, a committee has been set up to investigate the employment exercise and report to the Rivers State Governor in two weeks.”
It will be recall that the Governor Wike aka Mr. Projects earlier on his return from the UK sacked the Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Transport, Samuel Eguma.
Reasons for his decision to sack the permanent secretary were not made know to the media. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport, Eguma was sacked with immediate effect by the governor.
Wike said his action is to serve as deterrent to other government officials who spend funds without approval from appropriate authority.
