Akwa Ibom State Lawmakers are set to produce the speaker of the House of Assembly in the 7th Assembly.
The inauguration for the new assembly will take place today.
The position of the speaker is zoned to Uyo federal constituency (Uyo, Ibesikpo- Asutan, Nsit Atai and Uruan) as the Etinan federal constituency has completed their own turn via Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke who is now in the federal house of Assembly.
Among the contenders are Rt. Hon. Aniekan Uko (Ibesikpo), Rt. Hon. Mark Esset (Nsit Atai), Hon. Anietie Eka (Uyo), Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey (Uruan).
Daily Tells Nigeria understands that the position will only be voted by the 25 members of the House of Assembly elected under the platform of PDP and only Essien Udim state constituency (Akpabio’s constituency) will not participate in the exercise as they are yet to produce a representative as the matter is in the court.
Rt. Hon. Aniekan Uko seems to be on the lead as he is a former speaker of the 6th Assembly for 6 months where his office was truncated by the tribunal in the case of election cancellation for a re-run. He seems to be more experienced than the trio though he was elected as a first timer.
Hon. Anietie Eka, might be the first timer but he is qualify to lead just like the former but will it be the same thing to watch! He is educationally sound and from the Local government that host the state. His people are strongly behind him.
Rt. Hon. Mark Esset is also an experienced legislator, he has the political sagacity as he broke the jinx of 2nd term in his constituency to come to the house for the second time. He is now the highest political office holder in Nsit Atai.
Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey is another smart politician that may sprang out surprises, he is not making much noise but working assiduously to lure his colleagues to grant his request to become the speaker. He has the support of his people and his colleagues also and so political stalwart.
Who wins today?
